Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Jupag devices

What happens if I lose my Jupag device?

If you lose your Jupag device, your funds remain secure as long as no one has access to both your device and your PIN. To recover your cryptocurrency, you'll need to use your recovery seed phrase that you wrote down during the initial setup process. This 12 or 24-word phrase can be used to restore access to your funds on a new Jupag device or compatible wallet.

This is why it's critical to store your recovery seed phrase in a secure location, separate from your device, and never in digital format. We recommend using a fireproof and waterproof storage solution for your recovery phrase.

Are Jupag devices compatible with all cryptocurrencies?

Jupag devices support a wide range of cryptocurrencies and tokens, including all major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and many others. Our flagship models support over 1,500 different cryptocurrencies and tokens.

We regularly update our firmware to add support for new cryptocurrencies and token standards. You can view the complete list of supported assets in our compatibility section or check our online database which is updated whenever new cryptocurrencies are added.

How does Jupag protect my private keys?

Jupag devices use multiple layers of security to protect your private keys:

  • Secure Element Chip: Private keys are stored in a specialized secure element chip that is designed to resist physical tampering and side-channel attacks.
  • Offline Operation: Your private keys never leave the device and all critical operations are performed offline, eliminating exposure to internet-based threats.
  • PIN Protection: Access to the device requires a PIN code, with progressive delays and optional device wiping after multiple incorrect attempts.
  • Encrypted Storage: All data on the device is encrypted using AES-256 encryption.
  • Verified Firmware: Device firmware is cryptographically signed and verified at each boot to prevent malicious modifications.

For advanced models, additional security features include fingerprint authentication and tamper-evident packaging.

Do I need technical knowledge to use a Jupag device?

No, Jupag devices are designed to be user-friendly and accessible to people with various levels of technical knowledge. Our intuitive interfaces guide you through the setup process and everyday use with clear instructions.

Each device comes with a quick-start guide, and our support website offers comprehensive tutorials and video guides for all common operations. Our customer support team is also available to assist with any questions or issues you may encounter.

While having some basic knowledge of cryptocurrency concepts is helpful, it's not required to use our devices effectively for secure storage.

How often do Jupag devices receive firmware updates?

Jupag releases firmware updates approximately every 2-3 months under normal circumstances. These updates may include:

  • Support for new cryptocurrencies and tokens
  • Security enhancements and patches
  • Usability improvements
  • New features and capabilities

Critical security updates are released as needed outside of this regular schedule. All firmware updates are optional, but we recommend keeping your device updated to benefit from the latest security features and cryptocurrency support.

Firmware updates can be installed using our desktop or mobile applications, and the process preserves all your existing wallets and settings.

Security Best Practices

Essential tips to maximize the security of your cryptocurrency assets

01

Protect Your Recovery Phrase

Your recovery phrase (seed words) is the master key to all your cryptocurrency holdings. Store it in a secure, offline location—ideally in multiple secure locations. Never store it digitally, take photos of it, or share it with anyone. Consider using a metal backup solution to protect against fire and water damage.

02

Use Strong PIN Codes

Choose a unique PIN for your Jupag device that is not used for any other purpose. Avoid easily guessable PINs like birthdates, sequential numbers, or repeating digits. For maximum security, use the maximum PIN length supported by your device model.

03

Consider Using Passphrases

For additional security, add a BIP39 passphrase (sometimes called a "25th word") to your recovery phrase. This creates a completely separate wallet that provides plausible deniability and protection against physical threats. Remember that passphrases are case-sensitive and must be remembered—there is no way to recover funds if you forget your passphrase.

04

Verify Device Authenticity

Always purchase Jupag devices directly from our official website or authorized resellers. Upon receiving your device, verify its authenticity using the holographic security seals and the device attestation feature in our software. This ensures your device hasn't been tampered with before reaching you.

05

Keep Firmware Updated

Regularly check for and install firmware updates for your Jupag device. Updates often include important security patches and improvements. Always verify update authenticity through our official channels and never install firmware from unverified sources.

06

Verify All Transactions

Always carefully review transaction details on your Jupag device's screen before confirming. Check recipient addresses, amounts, and fees. Don't rely solely on what's displayed on your computer, which could be compromised by malware.

Troubleshooting

Solutions for common issues with Jupag devices

Device not recognized by computer

If your computer does not recognize your Jupag device, try these steps:

  1. Ensure the device is turned on and unlocked with your PIN
  2. Try using a different USB cable, preferably the original one that came with your device
  3. Connect the device directly to your computer (not through a USB hub)
  4. Restart your computer and try again
  5. Try a different USB port on your computer
  6. For Windows users, check Device Manager for unknown devices that might need drivers
  7. Ensure you have the latest version of Jupag software installed

If these steps don't resolve the issue, please contact our support team for further assistance.

Forgotten PIN code

If you've forgotten your PIN code, there is no way to recover it or bypass it on the device. This is an intentional security feature. You'll need to reset your device and restore it using your recovery seed phrase:

  1. Enter incorrect PINs until the device resets itself (usually after 3-10 incorrect attempts, depending on your security settings)
  2. Alternatively, use the "Reset Device" option in the device settings or our desktop software
  3. Once reset, set up the device as new
  4. During setup, choose the "Restore from recovery phrase" option
  5. Enter your 12 or 24-word recovery phrase in the correct order
  6. Create a new PIN that you'll remember

Your wallets and cryptocurrencies will be restored as long as you have the correct recovery phrase. If you don't have your recovery phrase, unfortunately, access to your funds cannot be restored.

Firmware update fails

If a firmware update fails, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure your device has sufficient battery (at least 50%) or keep it connected during the update
  2. Make sure you're using a reliable internet connection
  3. Close any other applications that might be using your Jupag device
  4. Try using a different USB port, preferably directly on your computer rather than through a hub
  5. Restart the Jupag desktop application and try the update again

If the update fails repeatedly, your device might enter recovery mode. In this case, our desktop application will guide you through the recovery process. If all else fails, please contact our support team, who can provide specialized instructions for your specific situation.

Screen unresponsive or frozen

If your Jupag device's screen becomes unresponsive or frozen, try these steps:

  1. Disconnect the device from any USB connections
  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a restart
  3. If the device has a reset button (usually a small pinhole on the back or side), use a paperclip to press it gently
  4. Allow the device to fully drain its battery, then recharge and restart it

If the screen remains unresponsive after these steps, your device may require service. Contact our support team for repair or replacement options. Don't worry about your funds—as long as you have your recovery phrase, you can restore access to your cryptocurrencies on a new device.

Transaction won't confirm

If you're having trouble confirming a transaction on your Jupag device, check these common issues:

  1. Ensure the device is unlocked with your PIN
  2. Verify that you're in the correct app on the device for the cryptocurrency you're trying to transact
  3. Check that the device firmware is up-to-date
  4. Make sure the Jupag desktop or mobile app is updated to the latest version
  5. For Bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies, verify that your fee settings aren't too low for current network conditions
  6. If using a browser extension wallet, ensure it has permission to communicate with the Jupag device

Sometimes simply disconnecting the device, closing all applications, and starting over can resolve communication issues. If problems persist, please contact our support team with details about the specific cryptocurrency and transaction you're attempting.
